The Journey of AB Fitness
My name is Anthony Bevilacqua, and I have been a personal trainer for well over 20 years. I am also a certified nutritionist and personal trainer. What does that mean exactly? It means my specialty is helping transform their health and fitness in ways you didn’t think possible!
Personal training is my passion, and results are our game. Every person that steps foot inside AB Fitness Personal Training, we personally design their protocol so they can finally achieve results.
My journey into fitness began when I was 18 years old, the legal age to begin personal training.
On my 18th birthday, I walked into the nearest big box gym and applied for a job. I was hired instantly and quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the personal training director with over 15 trainers under my supervision. However, I soon realized that the big box gym environment didn’t align with my vision for fitness. I wanted to create a space where people could truly transform their lives, not just their bodies. So, in 2014, I took a leap of faith and started AB Fitness in my garage.
Before launching AB Fitness, I had a diverse background in fitness. I was a competitive bodybuilder and powerlifter, ranking 4th in New York in my weight class. Additionally, I worked in physical therapy for 5 years, where I gained extensive experience in improving muscular imbalances and strengthening injured areas. This unique blend of experiences has shaped my approach to fitness, focusing not only on building muscle but also on overall health and functional strength.
In 2018, we opened our first official location in East Meadow, and four years later, in March 2020, we expanded to Massapequa—during a time when many businesses were closing their doors. In 2024, we added our Oyster Bay location, furthering our mission to help thousands of Long Islanders improve their health and fitness through the right type of workouts that make them stronger and fitter.
Mentorship is a cornerstone of what we do at AB Fitness. I take great pride in mentoring our trainers, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to help our clients achieve their goals. We conduct in-service trainings and deep, in-depth workshops on various topics that affect our clients. Every trainer must go through a rigorous 12-week internship with me directly.
They must learn from me, or they cannot be hired. This process ensures that every trainer at AB Fitness upholds the high standards we set for ourselves and our clients.
My story starts out like most: I was a skinny kid growing up, weighing about 135 lbs at 5’10” before I started working out. I was always self-conscious of the size of my arms—they measured a mere 11 inches when I first started. For a guy, that’s tiny! Talk about having pea shooters instead of guns, lol.
I became obsessed with fitness, trying to grow bigger. Even though most people think that gaining size is easy, it’s far from it! Yes, it might be easy for some people to put weight on, but putting on muscle is a whole different challenge.
Like most of you, I made several mistakes when it came to my eating. I became more obsessed with proper nutrition because 70% of your results come from your diet. This led me to pursue a degree in nutrition. Along the way, I learned that the healthier and cleaner I ate, the more weight I lost—a frustrating realization when my goal was to gain muscle. It took me a long time to figure out what actually works. If there’s one thing I could change about my fitness journey, it would be to acquire the proper information earlier on. Had I known then what I know now about nutrition and training, I would have reached my goals much sooner.
My goal today is to do just that for others: to cut down their learning curve and fast-track them to their goals. I know that if you come to me eager to learn, I can, without question, put you on the right track. Your job is to execute. Are you up for the task?
